Vrindavan (బృందావనం)

Today: Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh

Vrindavan is where little Krishna grew up - the groves by the Yamuna where he stole butter, played his flute so sweetly that the cows stopped grazing to listen, and danced the rasa lila with Radha and the gopis under the full moon. Nearby rises Govardhana hill, which Krishna, in many tellings, lifted on his little finger like an umbrella to shelter the whole village from Indra's storm. Even today, pilgrims say every dust grain of Vrindavan still remembers the sound of his flute.
