Duryodhana invited the Pandavas to a festival in this town - but it was a trap. He had a beautiful palace built for them out of lac, wax, and oil, materials that catch fire in an instant. Warned just in time by their uncle Vidura's secret message, the Pandavas dug a tunnel, and on the night the palace burned, they slipped away underground while the world believed they were gone.
