Khandava Forest (ఖాండవ వనం)

Today: Traditionally the forest lands around modern Delhi

When the kingdom was split, the Pandavas were given the wild, tangled Khandava forest - land nobody wanted. Then Agni, the fire god, came asking for help: he needed to consume the forest, but Indra kept dousing his flames with rain. Krishna and Arjuna held back the storm while Agni blazed, and out of the cleared ground a brand-new city would rise.
