Bhadrachalam (భద్రాచలం)
Today: Bhadrachalam, Telangana
On the banks of the wide Godavari stands the beloved temple of Rama at Bhadrachalam, in the very forests where, in many tellings, Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana wandered during their exile. The temple was built by Bhakta Ramadasu, who spent years locked in prison for using the ruler's money to build it - and from his cell he poured his heart into kirtanas to Rama that Telugu families still sing today. Every Sri Rama Navami, the grand kalyanam - the wedding of Rama and Sita - is celebrated here and broadcast into every Telugu home.
